Teach Online in a Peruvian School
The Covid-19 pandemic has led VolunTeach Peru to deliver most of our teaching programmes and support schools, online. Despite the challenges encountered last year, we are delighted to invite you all to participate in this hourly-paid scheme, in your free time and from the comfort of your home. We are continuously looking for talented online tutors to teach with us between 2 and 4 hours weekly, depending on their availability. Hourly pay rates range between £12 for undergraduates and £15 for graduates, native speakers of English.
THE ROLE OF THE ONLINE TUTOR (OT)
To support and help students improve their speaking skills and confidence in the English language. They teach along with the classroom teacher.
They are responsive, communicative, expressive and friendly.
OT lead the speaking and listening activities of the lesson plan.
They are familiarized with the use of Zoom, Google Meet, Jamboard, interactive whiteboards.
They promote an English speaking environment at all times.
OT help building students' confidence to speak in English, provide feedback and answers to the pupils.
OT are willing to share and exchange cultural experiences with learners.
They reply to emails when required.
OT act at all times in accordance with the highest professional standards.
They Attend lesson planning sessions with schools teachers once or twice a month (as required).
WHEN CAN I START AND FOR HOW LONG I CAN TEACH?
Online Tutors are welcome to apply to this post for as long as they are available throughout the Peruvian Academic year which runs from March until December.
The length of your commitment relies on your availability. The minimum required is two months. You may be assigned to a school class from 1 and up to 4 hours weekly.

Teaching ages of students and levels:
Primary School: 5-7 years old.
Middle School: 8-10 years old.
High School: 11- 16 years old.
1-10 groups of students or smaller.
Tutors assigned to larger a class will work together with the classroom teacher simultaneously.
Native speaker of English.
UK university undergraduate or graduate.
Teaching Experience is required in-person or online.
Two letters of recommendation (from a former teaching-related employer and/or your home university.
Lots of enthusiasm!
If you have worked or volunteered as a teacher, a teacher assistant or either you have worked as an online tutor with an accountable track of happy students, will help you become ideal for the post.
A lot of the success of this job relies on your experience, professionalism and personality too. That said, friendly (although professionally distant), empathetic, patient, and understanding personality traits are essential.
Successful candidates will be shortlisted for an interview on Zoom with a VolunTeach Peru representative before they are invited to take part in the programme.
TEACHING TRAINING AND SUPPORT
Online Tutors selected for the role will be invited to attend a teaching training with us and a Welcome Session with the school assigned teachers.
This first contact will allow you to provide you with as much information as possible in terms of the teaching styles and students you will teach.
Planning sessions may be required to attend also. This will be paid in proportion to a one-hour pay rate length.
