Teach Online to students in Peru

The Covid-19 pandemic  led VolunTeach Peru to launch an online teaching program to continue supporting schools. Despite the challenges encountered during these difficult times, we are delighted to invite you to participate in this scheme in your free time and from the comfort of your home.

We are continuously looking for talented online tutors to teach with us between 2 and 4 hours weekly, depending on their availability. Pay rates range between £12 for undergraduates and £15 for graduates, per hour.

Program Overview

  • Teaching days: Monday to Fridays in the afternoons or evenings.

  • Commitment desired: Online tutors are encouraged to commit for one school term at least (2 months average).

  • Students ages and teaching levels:​ Primary School: 5-7 years old, Middle School: 8-10 years old, High School: 11- 16 years old.

  • ​Class sizes: 15-25 students or smaller.

  • Tutors work together with the classroom teacher simultaneously.

Application requirements

  • Native or fluent level of English language skills

  • University undergraduate or graduate

  • Ability to work in a teams

  • Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills

  • Enthusiastic to work with children

  • Sense of humour

  • Teaching experience is required.

  • Knowledge of Spanish is not a requirement.

  • Non-native speakers of English are welcome to apply by submitting their IELTS (Academic) results, a 7.5 overall is required.

If you have worked or volunteered as a teacher, a teacher assistant or you have worked as an online tutor before, with an accountable track of happy students, it will help you become the ideal candidate for the post. A lot of the success of this job relies on your experience, professionalism and personality. That said, friendly, empathetic, patient, and understanding personality traits are essential.​

​Applicants will be shortlisted for an interview on Zoom with a VolunTeach Peru representative.

 

Online Tutors selected for the role will be invited to attend a teaching training with VolunTeach Peru and then a Welcome Session with the school teachers you will support.  This first contact with them will allow you to provide you with as much information as possible, in terms of their teaching styles and the students you will teach.

 

* Planning sessions may be required to attend also. These will be paid in proportion to a one-hour pay rate length.

The role of the Online Tutor

Online tutors support and help students improve their speaking skills and confidence in the English language. 

  • They are responsive, communicative, expressive and friendly.

  • OT lead the speaking and listening activities of the lesson plan.

  • They are familiarized with the use of Zoom, Google Meet, Jamboard, interactive whiteboards.

  • They promote an English speaking environment at all times.

  • OT help build students' confidence to speak in English, provide feedback and answers to the pupils.

  • OT are willing to share and exchange cultural experiences with learners.

  • They reply to emails when required.

  • OT act at all times in accordance with the highest professional standards.

  • They attend lesson planning sessions with school teachers when required.
