ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
When should I submit my application?
Applications for March, April, May and June 2022 are open. We receive applications year round and these are answered as they arrive.
What is the duration of the programme?
Six months is the minimum required. We might open 4 months vacancies too, check with us first.
What locations are available?
Locations ara available in the cities of Lima [capital city] and Cajamarca [Andes mountains region].
When can I start?
The academic year in Peru starts in March and finishes in December. Popular months to start the programme are March, May, June, July.
What will I do?
The role is as an English Language Teacher Assistant. You are expected to co-teach in English in Early Years, Primary or High School levels.
How many hours will a teach?
30 hours weekly.
I don’t have a TEFL Certification. Is this a problem?
No. You can obtain the TEFL qualification after we send you the Offer Letter on behalf of the partner school. You will need to post the apostilled copy of your certificate 1-3 months before you arrive in Peru. TEFL Certification will be also used for visa purposes.
What skills are required for the vacancy?
Lots of enthusiasm, genuine commitment and excellent communication skills and also...
To be a university graduate OR undergraduate on year abroad.
Native level of English language skills.
Teaching experience an advantage
To be creative, communicative and able to interact with school ages.
Do I need to pay a fee or contribution to VolunTech Peru?
NO. Candidates do not pay any fee nor need to enroll to any course with VolunTeach Peru to be eligible to apply for the position.
Will I get paid?
Yes, teaching assistants receive a monthly salary which will help you cover your accommodation and board whilst in Peru.
THE HOST SCHOOL
How are they like?
They are mid-class private schools that teach between 10 and 14 hours weekly of English as a Foreign or as a Second Language. Being the learning of English a priority, this guarantees they will highly appreciate and understand why having a native speaker of English can be so valuable for both; Peruvian Teachers and their pupils.
In addition, their qualified and trained teachers ensure that they will use the English teaching assistant as a live resource of knowledge.
Will I receive orientation in school?
Yes, a School's Coordinator will make sure you receive the orientation needed. Should you need additional help, interns are welcome to contact VolunTeach Peru,
What are the teaching ages and levels in Peru?
Early Years (4 to 6 years old), Lower (6 to 10 years old) and Upper School (11 to 16 years old).
What is the level of English of students?
Our partner schools are private. They teach at least 8 hours of English a week. The pupils’ English vary from level to level.
Is accommodation provided?
No. VolunTeach Peru will provide you advice on these matters. We will help you find an appropriate accommodation for your stay in Peru.
What type of visa do I need?
School will arrange the Temporary Working Visa for you. Candidates arriving in 2019 will need to obtain it in their home-country prior to their arrival in Peru.
What are the requirements for the Temporary Working Visa?
The apostilled copy of your TEFL Certificate and a valid passport copy. TWV is processed upon your arrival in Peru by the host school. It may take between 2 -3 months.
Do I need teaching experience?
Ideally yes. Although we are opened to receive applications from candidates with no teaching background; it is an advantage.
Will there be other interns with me?
There usually are, not only other interns but also volunteers who are allocated in several schools across Peru. You will meet most of them upon your arrival in Lima.
IMPORTANT: We trust your professionalism and commitment. We are one of the very few TEFL Organisations that does not charge deposit fees to their teachers. We strongly believe they should not pay for working.
Hence, make sure you apply only if you are fully committed to the programme for the whole period. Terminating your contract with no apparent reasoning, SERIOUSLY affects the reputation of VolunTeach Peru with the partner schools and consequently interrupts that we continue supporting them as promised.
