We make your experience unforgettable and meaningful for our schools’ children.

The Teaching Assistant Experience Programme is the only programme that requires a fee to the candidate.

We arrange everything for you; not only at school and the host family, but also support you with personal matters you might unexpectedly need support with, when you are abroad. As a family run organisation, we are approachable at any time, this makes us unique.

We recruit up to 50 undergraduates every year for this programme. The small fee allows us to continue supporting schools for free and helps you to reduce your monthly stipend to the minimum. It covers the following services:

Placement in a reliable host school

The position is voluntary and schedule goes from Monday to Thursday from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Schools are located in safe and nice areas only.

The programme is available in the cities of Lima, Huaraz, Arequipa, Iquitos, Chiclayo, Cajamarca, Tarapoto, Huancayo and Piura.

A genuine host family

You will receive, love and support from your host family, apart from meals and accommodation whilst you volunteer in the partner school.

Schools help us recruiting an appropriate host family for you that belongs to their community. They must understand the importance of learning English and the cultural exchange benefits they will get out of this programme.

You will get the chance to experience the Peruvian culture first hand, our learn from our traditions, dances, delicious cuisine and put your Spanish into practice. You will be treated as another family member at home.

Liability Insurance

VolunTeach Peru pays a USD$2,000 liability insurance every year. Universities overseas strictly require  international companies and organisations to hold this documentation to promote volunteer or working opportunities with their graduates and undergraduates.

Pre-Departure Support

You may have many questions before you arrive. You are more than welcome to ask about every little detail you would like to know about Peru, the school, teaching tips, your Peruvian family preferences or travel plans in South America. We reply messages in less than 12 hours and sometimes even instantly.

Regular contact with affiliated Universities abroad

We are happy to provide candidates legal papers about VTP and fill out university forms. We do this to re-assure our commitment with them, their universities and the success of their experience in Peru.

Airport Pick-up and transfers

A VTP representative will pick you up from the Lima International Airport. We will take you either to our temporary accommodation in Lima for 2 nights (if your placement is not in Lima) or your host family house.

One-day sightseeing in Lima

The day after you arrive, we will take you on a tour around Lima, the historical city centre, enjoy a nice lunch and visit nice areas of Miraflores and Barranco. You will have the chance to meet the team of volunteers who will do the programme with you for the same dates.

In-country Acculturation and Orientation Seminar

An Orientation Seminar is compulsory for all volunteers, before they start the programme in schools. We teach volunteers cultural facts about Peru, pros and cons of the country and how to deal with them in the event of an emergency.

In-service ELT Training

Candidates attend a 6 hours training before they start teaching in schools. Training is delivered by Mrs. Lucy Castañon, VTP Director.

In-country support along your stay

You are not alone. There is always a VTP Representative you can contact online or on the phone. We are approachable and committed to help you anytime. We are just a phone call or an e-mail away from you.

Two charity projects thanks to your contribution

We run two projects in public schools; Colegio Ollantay and Colegio Tupac Amaru, both located in the south of Lima. Volunteers are very welcome to join us teaching English from scratch, to children and teenagers every week. We believe English is the key to access better opportunities in life. Why not providing  them English as an incredible tool for success!

One-free teachers training in partner schools

They are delivered in the schools where the programmes take place. We would like our Peruvian teachers of English improve their teaching methodology.

Administrative Costs

We coordinate every single arrangement, with your university, host school and Peruvian family.  The whole process takes us around 3 to 6 months before you arrive. The fee permits us to deliver this programme for free in our partner schools. Fees cover all administrative costs that we incur every month such as taxes, a lawyer, an accountant, promotional and marketing costs, teaching trainings, universities ambassadors in several cities throughout the UK, office supplies and logistical support.

Supervision at your host school

VTP visits its partner schools twice a year in all the cities where the programme is run. During the visits, we deliver information sessions to potential host families, interview them, train teachers, monitor and supervise the teaching assistants cooperation at school.

We are committed to make your experience as pleasant and as well organised as you would like it to be.

This programme is free of charge for our partner schools. Your role is voluntary. The timetable you will get is some how flexible so you can travel around Peru on the weekends or spend good quality time with your host family.
